Jemma Kirk is in the money in France
Jemma Kirk – who is based in France – jumped into second in the 3* 1.50m at Le Touquet, France, with Quelisto. A total of 68 contended with only 14 going clear in round one, Jemma slicing corners at a pace with the 13-year-old Quelisto. But they couldn’t catch Spain’s Diego Perez Bilbao on HH Best Buy, who won with two sec to spare. Louise Simpson was also in the mix, but a couple of rails on the floor in round two dropped Grafit to 14th.
Shane Breen jumped into second place on Brendon Stud’s Fabrice van Overis (For Pleasure/Diamant de Semilly) in the 1.35m. Forty-nine contended this speed class with Ireland’s Shane finishing 1.34 sec behind the pace. Nicole Pavitt chased hard to finish third on the Dougas-sired Doucardi and Laura Renwick took fourth with Bintang II (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve/Orlando). William Funnell posted a steadier round on Billy Cool for ninth.
Laura rode to the top in the 60-strong young horse 1.30m on the selle Francais Alothain de Blondel (Newton de Kreisker/Heartbreaker), winning with 2.22 sec in hand. Louise Simpson popped Felix X (CS Online/Landadel) into seventh.
And 0.96 sec kept Laura from the top spot of the 3* 1.40m speed, but the round was sufficient to take second with the Lauxley de Breve nine-year-old Utrillo de Breve. William Funnell slotted Billy Angelo into fourth and a fast four faults – the time good enough to win – put Nicole Pavitt in 16th on Areeb OL.
Lulu Warren finished eighth on the Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve-sired Deltina in the 1* 1.35m with a double clear. And Anja Jackson picked up eighth inthe 1* 1.25m speed on the Vaillant daughter Liberty 348, nine sec behind the pace.
French-based Brit Alex Rident picked up fifth in the 2* 1.40m at Palaiseau in France, with the Chinta mare Come Back, finishing a little more than two sec behind the pace in the 38-strong class. Spain’s Antonio Marinas Soto slotted Cash and Go into sixth with Antonio’s partner Ellen Whitaker also double clear and in seventh aboard Hermes van de Vronbautshoeve.
Louise Alston jumped a steady clear in the 2* 1.30m with Doublet (Baloubet du Rouet/Pilot) for ninth spot 11 sec behind the pace.
And a steady double clear by Alex on Ucello Massuere in a hotly contended 1.35m could only take 18 th place.
