John Whitaker is in the mix in Shanghai
John Whitaker posted a double clear on the 12-year-old Ornellaia (For Pleasure/Calato) for 10th in the 1.50/1.55m – the first round doubling as the Global Champions league – on their first run out in Shanghai.
British-based American Laura Kraut eased Zeremonie into eighth and clear and four put Scott Brash on Hello Annie in 14th place. Seven faults in the second round pushed Ben Maher and Don Vito to 19th.
John’s clear helped put the Hamburg Diamonds in second place after round one of the Global Champions league, team-mate Jos Verlooy also penalty-free on Caracus. Three jumped for a clean sheet, with the St Tropez Pirates (Julien Epaillard on Cristallo A LM and Simon Delestre’s Chesall Zimequest) leading the way with more than a second in hand.
Paris Panthers Jack Towell (New York) and Darragh Kenny (Charly Chaplin S) currently stand third with Ben Maher on Don Vito and Eduardo Menezes on Chacgrano are fourth with clear and four.
Ben eased the nine-year-old It’s Real Love v Smis Z (C Indoctro/Liberato I) into fifth in the 5* 1.45m two-phase. They finished 1.16 sec behind the winner, Saudia Arabia’s Ramzy Hamad Al Duhami on Garlic v Kapelhof. Alexandra Thornton was also double clear on Charielle for 10th spot and Scott picked up one time penalty in an easy trip in round one on Hello M’Lady to finish down the line.
