Jodie Hall-McAteer got Chepstow International 2* at the David Broome Event Centre off to a flying start with a big tour 1.40m win on Colette.
Forty-one of 60 starters posted initial clears, although only 37 tackled the hotly-contended jump-off with Jodie finding the shortest route on the Vincenzo/Heartbreaker 10-year-old Colette, using ultra-tight turns at a relentless pace to take the top spot.
Paul Barker chased hard but could only finish 1.78 sec in arrears for second on the 10-year-old Happy Boy (Kannan/Kimball). Robert Whitaker eased Hicksteadt AEG into third with George Whitaker on Darius in fourth. Sammie-Jo Coffin jumped into fifth with Bellamy II and Tracy Priest claimed sixth on Caristo VDL.
Mark Edwards was the sole rider to break the 30 second barrier to top the medium tour 1.35m two-phase on the eight-year-old Quidde du Buisson Z (Quartz II Adelheid Z/Zandor Z), finishing with 0.61 sec in hand over Alice Watson’s Aldatus Z 14-year-old KEC Havana. Keith Shore rode into third on Coriander van’t Vennehof in this hugely popular, 95-strong class with Emily Ward and Wild Rose – who has successfully returned to competition after having a foal by Big Star – in fourth. Olivia Gent took fifth with Lord Thuder and Charlie Dawson slotted TJM Henry de Reve into sixth.
William Rekert headed the 88-strong small tour 1.30m two-phase, galloping into the top spot on the nine-year-old Zelote VDL/Lux mare Daniek by 0.69 sec. Fave Adams slotted the eight-year-old mare Ebriolita into second with Simon Crippen in third on Atlanta VIII. Alice Watson took fourth on In the Mood van het Kriekenhof with Louise Whitaker and Abeer II OL equalling the time of William Fletcher’s Glory Rose to finish equal fifth.
Chloe Winchester made a winning return to the David Broome Event Centre in the gold tour 1.25m. Crowned the 1.20m champion at the Welsh Masters a fortnight earlier, Chloe and the Newmarket Venture/Cavalier Royale 10-year-old Sportsfield Our Clare claimed a 0.23 sec advantage over second-placed Abbie Summers and Quantas. Tegan Jones was third on Apart EA with Olivia Poole’s Chinook BH in fourth, Sara Arkell aboard John Jones’ Cordillio Z fifth and Leonie Aitkenhead sixth on Westpoint Ferdinand.
Julian Mincher and the 11-year-old Calista triumphed in the silver tour 1.20m with three quarters of a second in hand.
