Tim Wilks is best Brit in Lanaken

Tim Wilks was best Brit in Lanaken’s concluding 3* 1.50m grand prix on the Z tour in Belgium with Quelbora Merze.

Only six of the initial 58 reached the jump-off over a tough track with Tim one of the elite, but two rails on the floor with the Tarzan de Beaulieu 13-year-old dropped them to the bottom of the line and sixth place. France’s Penelope Leprevost claimed the win with 0.68 sec in hand on Ratina d’La Rousserie over the Netherlands’ Gert Jan Bruggink on Connelly 2.

Charlotte Platt returned four faults in round one with Flawless to take 17th.

Tim guided the eight-year-old mare Jezebel (Toulon/Artos Z) into fifth in the 1.45m speed with a good clear. They finished 2.40 sec behind the winner, Sweden’s Rolf-Goran Bengtsson on Oak Grove’s Carlyle. Lee Williams returned a steadier round on the Balou du Rouet eight-year-old Salvador for 11th and James Davenport was also clear for 13th on One Endeavour. Four faults dropped Millie Allen and Lowellie down to 18th.

And Tim eased Glory Warrior (Warrior/Caretino Glory) into fifth in the 57-strong six-year-old speed with a steady clear to finish more than eight sec behind the winner. All posting one time fault was Anna Wilks on l’Artiste de Toxandra, Spencer Roe’s Gambler B and Tim on second ride Loeki van het Lindehof for 13th, 14th and 15th.

British-based Swede Angelie von Essen took third in the 1.50m. She was one of seven from 59 to reach the jump-off and posted another clear on Bydalens Qamaieu de Montsec to finish 1.46 sec behind the winner, Belgium’s Koen Vereecke with Ina van de Nieuwburghoeve. Four faults in round one dropped Jude Burgess and Comeback de Fremis to 19th.

Max Routledge returned an easy, steady clear with the seven-year-old Centos Girl (Cento/Con Capitol) to take 13th in the 3* 1.30m.

Sally Swiers jumped into sixth in the 1* 1.20m speed with the Lord Luis 10-year-old Millfield Long Socks, their steady round finishing almost 10 sec behind the pace

.Four faults in round one of the under 25 1.45m dropped Zoe Smith on Que Sera III, Ellie Meager’s Cassius III and Isaac Hall on Conrad to 14th, 15th and 17th places

.And four faults in the 10-horse jump-off of the 1* 1.30m pushed Sarah Williams and Calvaro Star down to ninth place.
