British-based Irishman Peter Maloney topped the 2* gold 1.35m two-phase section A at Eschweiler Jumping Festival, Germany, with Team Harmony’s Carano/Caretino 12-year-old Babilonia.
He was chased hard by Louise Simpson on the eight-year-old Jaffar de Bourguignon (Lord Z/Darco), but she had to settle for second 0.56 sec in arrears. A winner the previous day, David Simpson and Starfighter took fifth on this occasion and David also picked up eighth on Chessy 17.
In the section B 1.35m, Anthony Condon rode into fourth with John Hales’ Zurich eight-year-old Zira VH Kapelhof Z, 1.46 sec behind the pace. Jumping steadier double clears was Christina Gachoud on Rumbolds Warriors Echo and Jenna Palmer Evans with Ravello for 15th and 16th.
British riders dominated the age classes, with three UK riders filling the top places in the six-year-old final. Katinka Brogaard proved the quickest on Galveston G (Querly-Elvis/Lupicor) to take the win by 0.39 sec. Laura Johnson rode into second on Off the Record (Luidam/Courage II) and James Billington filled third place on the Campbell VDL-sired Gamble.
Brits claimed the top two places in the five-year-old final – both based at Eschweiler. Felix McCartney claimed the win on Lopez 39 (Lord Argentinus/Ferman) with a 0.54 sec advantage over Jenna Palmer Evans with Coolado Z (Cayado 3/Royal Bravour) in second.
Flo Norris jumped into seventh in the silver tour 1.20m on the Douglas nine-year-old Darling HDH – 2015 HOYS newcomer winner for Anna Power. They finished almost three sec behind the winner.
