David Simpson and Peter Maloney are in winning mode in Eschweiler

It was a Simpson one-two in the 1.40m speed section A at the Eschweiler Jumping Festival, Germany, as David claimed the win from wife Louise.

British-based Irishman David was the sole rider to break the 30 second barrier, guiding the 11-year-old Starfighter (Stalypso/Contendro I) to a 1.54 sec win. Louise had to settle for second on the 11-year-old Grafit (Kashmir van Schuttershof/Manhattan) and James Billington jumped into third on the eight-year-old Comfortuna VDL (Berlin/Nimmerdor).

And British-based Irishman Peter Maloney headed the section B 1.40m with the Vigo D’Arsouilles/Cash 11-year-old Ghana, winning by 1.45 sec.

Peter claimed second in the gold 1.30m section B with the 12-year-old Babilonia (Carano/Caretino), conceding the win to the speedy German Maximilian Vogel on Berlinale 3 by 3.56 sec. Laura Johnson jumped a steadier clear for 14th on the Vleut/Oklund eight-year-old Elvis.

Louise Simpson popped the Valentino eight-year-old The Jeweller into 12th with a clear round in the 1.30m speed section A.

James eased the Campbell VDL-sired Gamble into third in the six-year-old 1.30m speed with a sensible steady clear to finish 10 sec behind the winner. Four faults dropped Felix McCartney down to eighth on Constakko Raa (Contendro/Stakkato Z) and Reece Oliver took 10th on five faults with Lingala.

Jenna Palmer Evans took third in the young horse five-year-old 1.15m speed on the Con Polydor five-year-old Charleston 69 more than seven sec behind the pace. Felix McCartney was also clear on Lopez 39 (Lord Argentinus/Ferman) for sixth.

In the seven-year-old 1.35m, Anthony Condon jumped into fourth with Friso (Azteca VDL/Phin Phin), 2.50 sec behind the winner. James Billington was also clear on Fort Medoc VDL for 12th.

In the silver 1.20m, Flo Norris jumped into ninth with Darling HDH, a nine-year-old Douglas/Oklund nine-year-old previously ridden by Anna Power. And Jay Venables claimed 10th in the 1.15m on the Cassini II 14-year-old Cordillera.
