Angelie von Essen takes victory in the big class at Lanaken

British-based Swede Angelie von Essen jumped to victory in the top-billed 1.50m in Lanaken, Belgium on the Z tour. Sixty-seven contended this speed class, but Angelie found the quickest route on Bydalens Qamaieu de Montsec, a For Pleasure 13-year-old competed since December, to win by 0.76 sec.

Tim Wilks eased the 13-year-old Quelbora Merze into third and Millie Allen rode into 18th spot on Cochella with one time fault.

Millie Allen was best Brit with fourth place in the 1.45m two-phase on Lowellie, the nine-year-old Lord Z/Corano mare finishing 3.65 sec behind the winner, Belgium’s Thierry Goffinet on Isaura Pracht. Emma Slater and Art D Usance posted clear and four to drop from a potential second to 11th.

James Davenport slotted the home-bred Voltaire/Nimmerdor nine-year-old One Endeavour into fourth in the 3* 1.40m speed section B, two sec behind the pace. Angelie on Daniel took 12th and Jude Burgess on Comeback de Fremis returned on one time fault for 16th.

Tim Wilks claimed fifth in the 3* 1.40m section A on eight-year-old Jezebel (Toulon/Artos Z) three and half sec behind the winner. James Whitaker was also clear on the Brilliant Lad 14-year-old Glenavadra Brilliant for 15th.

Sam Hutton was double clear in the 3* 1.35m on the nine-year-old Indra’s Twinkeling (Quadrillo/Caretino) to take 11th.

In the 3* 1.30m, James Whitaker posted an easy clear on the eight-year-old Mersley Mon Capatain daughter for 16th spot. Lee Williams returned one time fault on Balulu.

An easy clear in the under 25 1.30m speed earned Zoe Smith fifth place on Mandy McGlynn’s Caretino Glory/Goodtimes nine-year-old Que Sera III, finishing six and half sec behind the winner. Anna Wilks returned with one time fault on Knock Out Van’T Paradijs for 11th.

And Zoe also picked up third in the young horse six-year-old 1.20m speed on Garcia Lente (Bodnus/FAN Holland), crossing the line 0.94 sec behind the winner. Jude Burgess and Germates claimed ninth with Hannah Downes in 11th on Julietta Flamenco, Anna Wilks 12th aboard La Force de Tamerville and Spencer Roe took 14th on Gusto and 19th with Gambler B. Also jumping clear was Lee Williams on Luanda 55 and Anna Wilks with l’Artiste de Toxandra.

Ellie Meager posted a double clear in the under 25 1.35m with the 12-year-old stallion Cassius III (Calato/Literat) to take 15th amongst strong opposition. Anna Wilks was also penalty-free on Elizabeth and Undicci for 20th and 24th.

Sarah Williams jumped into fifth in the 1* 1.25m on the 10-year-old Calvaro Star, more than five sec behind the pace. Emma Slater provided the steadiest of the double clears for 12th on the Balou Star seven-year-old Ruxton Hullabalou.
