Two HOYS wildcards on offer to riders under 25

The loss of the young riders class at HOYS was a big blow to under 21 riders, but HOYS is now offering a wildcard for riders under 25 to compete in the International classes. The additional wildcard will be awarded to the highest placed rider aged between 18 – 25 within in the top 10 of the National Championship Show League at the British Showjumping National Championships on the 8 – 13 August.

Winners of the wildcard are required to bring three horses (a minimum of two) to jump the International classes at HOYS, plus an extra one for the Puissance should they wish.

As the young rider European Championships are running at the same time as the National Championships this year, an additional wildcard for 2017 will be offered to the highest placed individual medallist aged between 18 – 21.

“The decision to introduce the under 25 Wildcard was made in conjunction with British Showjumping in order to support our British Young Riders and to offer them more opportunities jumping here in the UK,” says a spokesperson for Grandstand Media Ltd.

A total of 32 places are up for grabs for the International classes at HOYS – 16 going to foreign riders selected from the Longines world ranking list and 16 to British riders. The top seven British riders on the ranking list automatically qualify and the top two from the British Showjumping gold league table. Wilcards are then awarded to the winner of the International Stairway series, the National Champion and winner of the HOYS league at the National Championships (8 – 13 August). In addition, two other wildcards are on offer at Keysoe (4 – 6 July).
