James Whitaker is in the money in Lanaken

James Whitaker eased Mersley Chakotay into sixth in the Z tour’s 3* 1.40m speed in Lanaken, Belgium.

A total of 90 horses contended this class, with James and the Mersley Mon Capatain/Centauer Z 13-year-old finishing three sec behind the winner, Belgium’s Gilles Dunon on Valentino du Val du Geer. Such was the calibre of rider here, Germany’s Marcus Ehning finished seventh aboard Calanda 42. George Whitaker guided the impressive Carano 10-year-old Cavas Toftegard into an easy trip to also jump clear but finish down the line.

And William Whitaker was in the mix in the top-billed 1.50m, posting a superb double clear on Utamaro D Ecaussines. He eased the 13-year-old Diamant de Semilly/Quidam de Revel stallion into seventh, 4.53 sec behind the winner, Belgium’s Francios Mathy Jr on the nine-year-old Ugano Sitte stallion Casanova de L’Herse. Sam Hutton returned clear and eight on Happydam to drop down to 16th.

Emily Llewellyn jumped to the top in the 59-strong young horse 1.25m two-phase on the Widny/Azarro six-year-old Mr Bullseye, winning by 0.78 sec. Zoe Smith claimed third on the consistent Garcia Lente, a six-year-old with Bodinus/FAN Holland bloodlines, and Hannah Downes was also double clear for ninth on the six-year-old mare Julietta Flamenco (Je T’Aime Flamenco/Harlequin du Carel). Anna Wilks picked up one time fault in the second phase on l’Artiste de Toxandra for 16th.

Sarah Williams popped into fifth with the 10-year-old mare Calvaro Star in the 78-strong 1* 1.25m speed more than six sec behind the pace.

Anna Wilks posted a double clear on the 13-year-old Undicci (Camiell-Flamingo Z/Cardento) in the under 25 1.30m two-phase for 10th spot. Tim Wilks jumped for one time fault in the second phase on the seven-year-old Billy Congo mare Shine to take 15th. Ellie Meager proved the fastest four in phase two for 18th place.
