Graham Babes narrowly misses out on victory to round off a good show in France
Graham Babes rounded off a good two weeks in Cagnes-sur-Mer, France, narrowly missing out on victory in the under 25 1.45. Thirty five contended this very fast class, with Graham finishing fractionally in arrears for second place on the Valentino DDH-sired Boucheron.
Graham also posted a double clear in the 1.35m grand prix on Calvade VD Pikkerie Z to claim fourth. Twelve of the 50 starters returned initial clears to access the jump-off with Graham and the Calvados/Phoenix mare finishing 2.15 sec behind the winner and just a hundredth of a sec in arrears of third place. France’s Marie Mercier took the win on Tuvien d’Incoville.
Alex Rident jumped into third in the 1.35m two-phase with Come Back, finishing 1.19 sec behind the winner. One time fault in round one dropped Greg Taylor and Esunja out of the running and into 19th.
Four faults in round one of the 3* 1.50m grand prix dropped Graham Lovegrove and the Cento/Continue mare Centolove down to 14th. France’s Marc Dilasser topped the seven-strong decider on Clifftonby 0.26 sec. Nigel Coupe and Golvers Hill returned six faults.
