Charlotte Platt maintains her consistent form in Lanaken
Charlotte Platt and Jenson 55 were best of the British in the 2* grand prix at Lanaken on the Z tour. The nine-year-old Verdi/Padinus stallion is showing great promise and easily posted a double clear to finish in fourth place.
Seventeen of the 81 starters produced initial clears with 10 again posting penalty-free rounds to make for a hot jump-off. And Charlotte carefully guided the scopey Jenson home clear to finish 1.37 sec behind the winner, Brazil’s Pedro Veniss on Tresor de Varende.
Spencer Roe was also in the mix but four faults in round two dropped the eye-catching stallion Chaccomo Agostini (Chacco-Blue/Acord II) down to 12th.
Sam Hutton jumped into fourth in the 1.40m two-phase on the nine-year-old Indra’s Twinkeling (Quadrillo/Caretano), finishing one and half sec behind the winner, Switzerland’s Romain Duguet and Tipsy Girl Loisel. James Whitaker was also double clear in this two-phase class for 21 st on Glenavadra Brilliant – the Brilliant Lad 14-year-old and 2016 Hickstead Derby winner for James’ brother William.
William finished 10th in the 2* 1.35m group one speed on the Zurich eight-year-old Junior van het Hulst in an educational clear round almost 12 sec behind the pace. And Lee Williams did similar in the group two class but picking up a time fault on the seven-year-old stallion TJ Dynamic (Chandler/Guidam) for 18th. Four faults dropped Sam on Elyah Lalan and Lee’s second ride Salvador out of contention.
Sally Swiers contended the 2* 1.30m speed to take 11th spot on the Lord Luis 10-year-old Millfield Long Socks, crossing the line with eight sec in arrears. Lee Williams jumped Balulu for three faults.
Emma Slater and the seven-year-old Ruxton Hullabalou (Balou Star/Embla Statesman) returned home with a double clear in the 1* 1.30m for 11th place.
In the young horse 1.30m two-phase, Zoe Smith guided the Bodinus six-year-old Garcia Lente into a double clear to also take 11th, and Hannah Downes was also penalty-free for 19th on the six-year-old Julietta Flamenco (Je T’Aime Flamenco/Harlequin du Carel).
