Charlotte Platt claims victory against strong opposition in Lanaken


Charlotte Platt claimed victory in the 2* 1.40m against strong opposition on day two of the Z tour in Lanaken, Belgium. A mammoth 90 contended this two-phase class, but Charlotte had it sewn up with a 0.39 sec advantage on the Lupicor/Goodwill mare Colien V. Sam Hutton was steadier for 13th on Florida van Maarle and George Whitaker was also double clear on the big-jumping Cavas Toftegard.

James Whitaker rode straight to the top in the 2* 1.30m speed on Mersley Ezri, the Mersley Mon Capatain eight-year-old mare taking the win by an impressive 2.56 sec from Belgium’s Rik Hemeryck on Deesse de la Sure. Lee Williams returned one time fault on Balulu.

Max Routledge was best Brit in the 1.45m, taking seventh on Stapleton Mist. Eighteen of the 83 posted initial clears to access the jump-off, with Max easing the big 12-year-old grey Mist (Cascane/Newton) finishing 4.52 sec behind the winner, France’s Emeric George on Chopin des Hayettes. A rail down for both Sam Hutton on Bimbo de la Ferme St-Martin and George Whitaker’s Darius dropped them to 14th and 16th respectively.

Zoe Smith jumped a good clear on the nine-year-old Caretino Glory/Goodtimes mare Que Sera III for ninth more than 10 sec behind the winner in a very fast,56-strong 1.35m speed group one. William Whitaker was right behind for 10th on the eight-year-old stallion Justin van de Zandhoeve (Emerald van’t Ruytershof/Nonstop). In the group two equivalent, Tara McDonald posted one time fault on Fygo Von d’Ouwe Grint for 14th spot.

Sally Swiers picked up third in the 2* 1.25m two-phase with the Lord Luis 10-year-old Millfield Long Socks, two and a half sec behind the pace. Emma Slater and Ruxton Hullabalou (Balou Star/Statesman) jumped double clear in the 1* 1.25m for seventh place, almost five sec in arrears of the winner’s time. Sarah Williams and Calvaro Star picked up a time fault in round one.

Jude Burgess claimed sixth on Gimona in the young horse 1.25m which boasted 73 starters. The Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve/Chin Chin six-year-old mare finished five sec behind the winner. Jude also slotted the Warrant six-year-old Germates into 13th with Zoe Smith taking 14th aboard Garcia Lente. Also jumping clear was Joe Clee (Gorgeous Lady), Spencer Roe (Gusto and Gambler B) and Emily Llewllyn (Mr Bullseye).
