Mark Bunting takes a win in Lier
Mark Bunting jumped to the top in the 1.30m section B at Lier, Belgium, taking the win on the Polydox 10-year-old Eurohill’s Calcary by 0.96 sec in an eight-horse decider.
Joe Clee went into third on the eight-year-old mare Je T Adore (Echo van het Neerenbosch/Darco), finishing 1.35 sec behind the winner, Belgium’s Gilles Thomas on Caretina. William Whitaker and the eight-year-old stallion Justin van de Zandhoeve (Emerald vant Ruytershof/Nonstop) jumped double clear for 10th and Alex Barr finished 23rd with clear and four aboard Queen Bee JX.
Alex Barr claimed sixth in the 1.35m two-phase section A on the Kojak/Manhattan 11-year-old Bettilina, 2.08 sec behind the winner, World number one Daniel Deusser for Germany on Tobago Z. Alex Hempleman guided Billy Tiffany (Billy Congo/Iroko) into ninth with William Whitaker giving the Diamant de Semilly stallion Utamaro D Caussines an easy run for 13th.
Emma Rust eased into sixth in the 1.30m section A on the Cantango 11-year-old Denada, 1.81 sec behind the pace in the 10-horse jump-off. Alex Hempleman picked up one time fault in round one on Cayo Z for 11th.
In the world ranking 2* 1.45m, Rose Moss picked up four faults on Carlos F and Mark Bunting’s Brennergraaf registered five faults to finish out of contention. Ten produced initial clears to access the jump-off, topped by Brazil’s Fernando Chiarotto Penteado on Catija ET Z with 0.47 sec in hand over Daniel Deusser on Sweet de Beaufour. British-based Patrick Nesbitt representing Bermuda jumped a great round but picked up one time fault in an otherwise penalty-free effort on Quick Z for 11th spot.
Rose jumped clear and four in the six-year-old on the Billy Congo-sired African Affair for ninth spot and Zoe Potter dropped to 14 th on clear and eight aboard Manderville Crescendo.
Only six jumped clear in round one of the 1.10m with Alex Barr on Darco Diva and Emma Rust aboard Escanor posting four faults in the first round for eighth and ninth. And William Whitaker gave the 14-year-old Fandango another easy run in the 1.20m to jump a steady clear.
