Phillip Miller hits top speed to win in Bonheiden
Phillip Miller hit immediate form at Bonheiden in Belgium, winning the 1.40m for Brendon Stud on their home-bred Unbelievable Lady.
A sizeable entry of 81 contended this speed class, with Phillip claiming the win on the Unbelievable Darco/Hamilton 10-year-old by 0.35 sec. It was a good day for Brendon Stud, their For Pleasure/Diamant de Semilly stallion Fabrice van Overis also jumped to victory under Shane Breen in Cagnes-sur-Mer, France.
Helen Tredwell jumped into third with her home-bred 13-year-old Larksong (Vangelis S/Larino) just 0.42 sec behind Phillip, and Charlotte Platt with the nine-year-old Verdi/Padinus stallion Jenson 55 took fourth. Michaela Huntington and the Asca nine-year-old Alegro Z took ninth spot and Ben Bick finished in 13th on Colour Blue. Rachael Connor and the Otangelo/Indorado seven-year-old Zaha slotted into 16th with Charlotte Platt also in 17th on Flawless. Also returning clears was Oliva Gent on Lord Thuder and Rumers Cascari. Four faults dropped Helen from possible victory to a lowly 37th on second ride Sebastian – an 11-year-old who shares his sire Unbelievable Darco with the winner.
Helen also featured in the 1.35m, taking second on Phil Tuckwell’s 10-year-old Baloubet du Rouet mare Balouetta. They finished 0.62 sec behind the winning time. Charlotte Platt was close behind for third aboard Colien V (Lupicor/Goodwill) with British-based Irishman Peter Maloney fourth on Babilonia (Carano/Carentino) and Lisa Jones eased the Silverstone/Indoctro nine-year-old Diana P into fifth. Peter also picked up 12th on Ghana.
Rachael Connor’s Casantos/Oklund mare is well named, she is nothing short of Fantastic. The super-consistent bay mare is a regular winner and added another victory to her ever-growing tally with the seven-year-old, repeating her win 24 hours earlier. They landed the win by 1.03 sec. Peter Maloney slipped into 11 th on Compelling Z (Chellano Z/Carthago Z) and Lee Williams claimed 14th with the Chandler/Guidam stallion TJ Dynamic and 15th on Balulu (Balou du rouet/Guidam). Jumping for clear and four was Helen Tredwell on the Vleut stallion Fergus and Charlotte Platt aboard the El Thunder daughter Rumbolds Starlight.
John Steels guided the promising Durrant daughter Highhope DD into the top spot of the five-year-old to win by 0.77 sec. Ben Bick took sixth on the Chacco-Blue/Coriall mare Chacco Star with Michaela Huntington’s Spartacus stallion High Five in seventh, Lucy Turner’s Belesette Star K Z (Big Star JR K Z/Quidam de Revel) took eighth on clear and four and Danielle Ryder pushed the Emerald van Ruytershof stallion Escape Z into ninth.
One time fault dropped John and the Contador/Bon Ami eight-year-old Einstein M down the line in the 1.20m to 22nd.
Kyra Vanstone claimed fifth in the six-year-old on Airo 55 (Balloon/Burgggraaf) with a nice double clear to finish 2.67 sec behind the pace. Also posting double clears was Helen Tredwell on Rowland Fernyhough’s Fidibus and Katie Pytches on Catoka for 14th and 15th.
