Louise Whitaker was best Brit in the 67-strong seven-year-old in Oliva Nova with a double clear and seventh place on Brendon Stud’s home-bred Special Warrior (Warrior/Caretino Glory). The pair finished 3.41 sec behind the winner. Germany’s Katrin Eckermann took the win on Quin 13 (Q-Verdi/Corrado I). Other Brits suffered a four-faultitus day, including Jamie Wingrove (Heartstring), Charlotte Flack (Ashdale Maganne) and David McPherson (CC).
Carmen Edwards jumped into third in the five-year-old with a new ride, the Verdi/Dutchboy mare Happy Valerie, posting a double clear in the 26-strong class to finish 1.54 sec behind the pace. Jasmin Collins was also double clear for eighth on Ballycommon Gem (Lancelot/Lux Z).
Clear and four in the six-year-old put British-based Irishman Barry Drea on My Lady OL (Armitage/Landlord) in 16th. The Netherlands’ Yves Houtackers claimed victory on the Namelus R daughter Gracieuza H. One time fault in round one dropped Tony French and Finnisk Castor out of the running.
In Arezzo, Italy, on the Toscana tour, Jay Buxton eased the Vigaro/Numero Uno mare All Faith into second, 2.56 sec behind the winner in the seven-year-old. Jamie Gornall jumped a steady clear for 21 st on Count Codex (Contendro/Gluckspilz).
