Brits filled four of the top five places in Vilamoura's six-year-old, Joe Whitaker taking the win on the Baltic VDL daughter Gallicia with a two sec advantage over Chloe Aston on Flavie van de Helle (Carlow van de Helle/Carvallo). Laura Johnson slotted Off the Record (Luidam/Courage II) into fourth with Emma Stoker’s Quatinka (Quaid/Perigueux) in fifth in the six-horse decider.Four faults in round one pushed Joe and Black Pearl Leone into 10th.
British riders also featured strongly in the five-year-old, lifting the top two places. Chloe Aston came to the fore on the stallion Magic Chanti with three sec in hand over Emma Stoker’s Grand Stakkato (Graf Top/Stakkato). Only five double clears were recorded with Vaness Jobson-Scott picking up four faults in the second phase for eighth on Muna VD Bisschop and Chloe in 20th aboard Merci de Geliveaux.
Germany’s Marc Bettinger dominated the seven-year-olds, taking the top three places with the only double clears on Celina IX, Fileva ST and Rosso Picez.
Only six of the 34 starters jumped initial clears with four faults in the jump-off dropping Emma Stoker and the Arko III/Darco stallion Everton de Villee to fourth. Four faults in round one put Anthony Condon on Friso in ninth, Joe Whitaker’s La Mona 11th and Emma with second ride Pembroke 3 into 13th.
