Louise Saywell and Jessie Drea take the lead in Paris

Louise Saywell got off to a great start at Saut Hermes, Paris 5* with second in the opening 1.45m two-phase.

A total of 45 starters contended with Louise slotting James Hughes’ consistent Peiter VI (Acorado/Landor) into the runner-up spot 1.42 sec behind the winner, Italy’s Emanuele Gaudiano on Carlotta 232. Michael Whitaker dropped down the order with clear and four on Viking.

Jessie Drea kept the Brits in the frame with victory in the 1.40m on the Touchdown/Irco Mena 12-year-old Mullaghdrin Touch the Stars, taking the win by the slender margin of 0.03 sec. Jack Whitaker jumped for clear and one time fault in this two-phase class to take eighth on the Heartbreaker 15-year-old Valentin R.

John Whitaker was best Brit in the 1.50m speed with a clear on Ornellaia for ninth spot. Forty-eight jumped with John posting a steady round on the For Pleasure/Calato 12-year-old on day one to finish almost four and half sec behind the winner, France’s speedy Patrice Delaveau on Carinjo HDC. Louise eased Cordalis 7 into 14th and Michael Whitaker returned the steadiest clear for 16th on JB’s Hot Stuff.
