Joe Whitaker is on top form in Spain


Joe Whitaker is enjoying a successful tour in the Spanish sunshine in Vejer de la Frontera, and posted another win with Lavarno.

Eighty-four tackled this big tour B speed class, with Joe claiming the win on the 10-year-old Locarno daughter Lavarno by 0.92 sec. Chloe Winchester eased Sheyenne 27 into fifth with Kayleight Watts on Winde in ninth and Lance Whitehouse 10th aboard Cartino III. Matt Sampson took 12th on Ebolensky and Theo Simpson was close behind for 13th on Touch of Chilli. Danielle Farnsworth claimed 16th on Claddagh Iroko and also jumping clear was Faye Adams (Ciana), Jess Dimmock (Cudansa M), Morgan Kent (Notis Me) and Douglas Duffin (Casparall).

Jess Dimmock was best Brit in the big tour D 1.50m with the Varo/Lancer III nine-year-old Cybel II, jumping into fourth spot. The sole British represenatative in the 11-strong jump-off, they were 2.62 sec behind winner Pedro Veniss of Brazil on Quabri des Isle. Douglas Duffin and Quidam B Z made just one mistake for four faults in round one.

Matt Sampson was just 0.30 sec away from winning the big tour 1.40m on the Papillon rouge 14-year-old Perfect Rouge, but had to settle for second spot. Harriet Nuttall jumped into fourth on Dulf with Jordan Thompson and Eclips V finishing in 12th with a steady round. Graham Gillespie posted just one frustrating time fault on Celine for 13th.

Mark Armstrong galloped to victory in the big tour A1 accumulator with the 12-year-old Balougio III (Lirbine/Fedor) with 3.45 sec in hand. Douglas Duffin eased Pyjama Jack into third with Chloe Winchester seventh on Hasj VH Vliegenhof Z. Sally Hopkinson took 10th on Etahgravin with Simon Crippen aboard Judy Ross’ Rosgan So Divine also jumping for maximum points to take 12th.

Harriet Nuttall popped the Cougar/Flagmount Diamond 16-year-old Highland Cruiser into second in the big tour A2 1.30, 0.67 sec behind the winner. Brits were bunched together here with Jess Dimmock third on Billy Tortilla, Beth Vernon’s Omane de Faux fourth, British-based Irishman Derek McCoppin fifth on Whiterock Lucky Lady and Kayleigh Watts picked up sixth on Fashion V. Faye Adams finished ninth on Ebriolita and Ellen Whitaker took 19th on Kings Hill Cavalier.

Also clear was Robert Bevis (Radioactive II), Leonie Aitkenhead (D Millfield Darin), Lance Whitehouse (Miss Belverdere), James Davenport (One Endeavour), Aimee Jones (Ultravox II), Deborah Jackson (For Blondie), Douglas Duffin (Chento D), Chloe Winchester (Contiki) and Joe Whitaker (Finesse VD Watertoren).

Abbe Elliott (nee Burchmore Eames) claimed victory in the medium tour C 1.40m on the Lupicor 14-year-old Wilandri E, winning by an impressive 2.32 sec in the 73-strong class. Tim Wilks was also double clear to ease Jezebel into seventh and Abbe dropped to 17th on second ride Casti Aneira on four faults.

Abbe also claimed fifth in the medium tour B 1.35m on Booming Blue Z, finishing 3.27 sec behind the pace. Jodie Hall-McAteer took sixth on Coquin de Coquerie Z and Christie Tamarin finished 11th aboard Grupo Prom Jivaro.

Pippa Goddard claimed seventh in the medium tour A 1.30m on Jucatan II with Ashlee Harrison in 10th on Caspar Z. Also returning a clean sheet was Georgie Crumley on Renkum Rock and Roll for 19th.

Ellie Hall-McAteer guided the Kannan daughter Dazzle II into third in the small tour C 1.30m, 2.72 in arrears of the winner. Richard Jenkinson claimed 11th on Culto and Polly Gredley jumped clear for 13th on Unex Barrichello.

Jake Ward topped another 1.10m to add to his ever-growing tally on this tour, winning on this occasion with Frederick VII by the big margin of 4.14 sec. Isabelle George eased Jaliska van de Heide into second with Louis Simmons in fourth on Dice.

Elliott Dowler finished in ninth in the small tour B on Chilas followed closely by Emily Elliott in 10th on Karthago de Cavron. Louise stoner too 12th on Oscar Zee with Polly Gredley 13th on Unex Arantos and Kelly Shannon slotted into 15th on Kira Van T Vennehof. Also clear was Caroline Corke (Electo Fortuna), Ben Farr (Capella de Tejo), Ellie Hall-McAteer (Escudo), Polly Gredley (Unex Clintan B) and Kelly Shannon (Klever Boy van het Bontehof).
