Louise Whitaker jumped the scopey mare Special Warrior into victory in the seven-year-old on day one of the winter cup 2 in Mijas, Spain.

Brendon Stud’s home-bred mare – by Warrior and out of a Caretino Glory mare – has flourished under Louise’s patient and expert guidance, and the pair came to the fore to win by an impressive 1.71 sec.

Helena Cassir also posted a double clear to ease Aidy Des Forets (Orlando/Adagio) into fourth. Stacey Babes and Flairvona returned six faults in the second phase to drop to 20th.

Adrian Whiteway slotted Kimba (It’s the Business/Tinka’s Boy) into second in the six-year-old, finishing 2.26 sec behind the winner, Germany’s Ben Wulschner on Jumpy 9. Lauren Edwards and Kesara jumped double clear for fourth and Graham Babes took 16th on Glencoe.

Graham fared better in the five-year-olds, taking the win on Ma Fleur JS (Emerald van Ruyters/Cassini II) with one second in hand. Lauren Edwards took third on Carumba (Cardento/Grandilot) and seventh wit Breit Star (Breitling/Sir Corland) and Sebastian Bishop eased Springsteen (Spartacus/Canabis Z) into sixth.
