Joe Whitaker is a winner on the Spanish sunshine tour
Joe Whitaker jumped straight into the top spot of the six-year-old B section with Black Pearl Leone, winning with more than a second in hand. Seven contended this two-phase class, with Joe claiming the win on the L’Arc de Triomphe/Helios de la Cour II selle Francais six-year-old by 1.28 sec. And Joe also brought the Checkpoint de Lison daughter Fairy Tale into fourth, 0.65 sec behind his winning time.
Rosie Gunn was immediately behind in fifth on the Arezzo VDL gelding Jagerbomb and Matt Sampson finished eighth on Glitter. David Wingrove was 11th on Grandeur III, just ahead of 12th placed Georgie Crumley on Khaled OL with Matt on second ride Cristo Beech taking 14th spot. Also jumping clear was Joanne Whitaker (Gerton), Kayleigh Watts (Princess Warrior and Rocabella), Pippa Goddard (Zoon van London), Chloe Winchester (Corofino’s Grace) and Anna Wilks (El Primero di Gala).
Jess Dimmock guided Billy Fleance (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve/Billy Mexico) into second in the six-year-old section A speed, more than four sec behind France’s speed Alix Ragot on Baby Boom O Moulin. Christie Tamarin eased the Phin Phin daughter Gaga into third with Kate Whitaker on Val de Vauxalles Z in seventh.
Harriet Nuttall was 15th on Carla X, just in front of Robert Bevis, 16 th on Gerko III van de Zeilhoek. Also clear was Georgia Distefano (Good Girl), India Payne (L’Espoir’s Opaline VD Caatshoeve), Leo Lorimer (Lui-Jo VLS), Alice Palmer (Glamour Boy) and Jake Saywell (Galaxcy).
Second the previous day, Lance Whitehouse was best Brit in the seven-year-old section A speed with the Argento/Quincy Z stallion Bazento taking fourth place, 1.12 sec behind the pace. Kayleigh Watts took 10th and 15th on Colton Playtime and Kilbarron Blue with Jake Saywell 19th on Darco Native. Also clear was Joe Whitaker (Billyjean and La Mona), Chloe Winchester (Firefly W), Pippa Goddard (No Name) and Donald Whitaker (Veintiuno).
Chris Moorhouse eased Castle Rock (Je T’Aime Flamenco/Diamond Serpent) into seventh in the seven-year-old section B speed, five sec behind the winner, Belgium’s Jos Verlooy on Karibou Horta. Georgie Crumley claimed 12th on Cotoki with Thomas Roche in 16th on Tincabell.
Alice Palmer was 19th on Essenar Crixius and also jumping clear was Beth Vernon (Moneybroom Dancer), Sally Hopkinson (Fadograaf), Theo Simpson (Flinstering), Danny Dunne (For Killy), Conor Moore (Karishma VH Beeckhof), Ireland’s Derek McCoppin (WKD Aimez Moi) and Graham Gillespie (Calvaro’s Up to Date).
The five-year-old were split into two sections, with Christie Tamarin on the Dutch-bred mare Grupo Prom Hanoi and India Payne with Pina Colada Z (Plot Blue/Diamant de Semilly) both taking second place. Louise Simmons on Hakuna (VDL Sheraton/No Limit) and Alice Palmer aboard the Cassanova sired Murphy Hof Ter Zeedycke both finished in fourth and Jess Dimmock took 10th on Vamoose.
Laura Robinson jumped into 11th on H Millfield Tobias and also going double clear was Emily Elliott on Zaza Z, Tip Top Cream Puff and Holliday, Abbe Elliott (Celtic Dream PSS Z), Deborah Jackson (X Factor), Charlotte Ash (Santender), Anna Wilks (Daudruppel T&L Z), Danika Johnsey Plumley (TJ Jolene) and Spencer Roe (Hero VD Akkerhoeve).
