Max Routledge is on top in Mijas

The weather stopped play on the Costa del Sol tour in Mijas and only two classes of the scheduled seven took place, with the other five postponed until further notice. Nonetheless, Brits were in flying form, claiming victory in both classes for Team Charles.

Max Routledge landed one of his biggest wins in the Master 1.45m grand prix riding for Peter Charles on Peter and John Roberts’ Stapleton Mist.

Fifty-two originally contended this top-billed class, with 12 clears going forward to the jump-off, including several Brits. But it was Max who found the shortest route, steering the Cascane/Newton 12-year-old Stapleton Mist to win by 0.65 sec over Switzerland’s Alain Jufer on Wiveau M.

Louise Whitaker was 2.61 sec behind Max for fourth on Dietmar Ackermann and Di Lampard’s home-bred Balou du Rouet 10-year-old Ruby VIII. And Anna Power put in another sterling performance with another double clear on Crack van Overis Z for fifth.

Morgan Kent and the Berlin nine-year-old Dolores made just one mistake to take seventh with Jamie Gornall on Carsten and Peter Charles aboard ABC Quantum Cruise in 11th and 12th. Incurring four faults in round one was Harry Charles (Vivaldi du Dom) and Ireland’s Richard Howley (Chinook) and John Whitaker came home on eight with Echo of Light.

Sienna Charles continued on her good run of form to head the Premium 1.40m on Chaitanya 2. Only 20 contended with ten jumping initial clears, and Sienna took charge, jumping into victory with 1.79 sec in hand on the Cartani/Athlet Z 10-year-old Chaitanya.

Ben Clark guided Valentino into fifth more than four sec behind Sienna, and Sienna’s sister Scarlett claimed ninth on Sacree du Rouet with clear and four.

One time fault prevented Morgan Kent from joining the jump-off and she took 11th on Notis Me.
