William Whitaker is in the mix in Lier's world ranking class

February 19, 2017

William Whitaker continued with the education of Ludwig Criel’s nine-year-old Lord Z/Carthago mare Illusionata van’t Meulenhof to jump into fifth in the world ranking 1.45m at Lier.

Sixteen of the 79 starters posted initial clears, but William opted not to push Illusionata against the clock and although they didn’t hit a fence, they picked up two time faults for fifth.  France’s Nina Mallevaey took the win on Solitude au Vent by 1.24 sec over Belgium’s Koen Vereecke and Ina van de Nieuwburghoeve.  Fellow Belgian Pieter Dejager claimed sixth behind William on Reve de Bacon – a former ride of Michael Whitaker and Graham Gillespie.

Julie Andrews on the Cantos/Burggraaf 12-year-old Ayrton IV jumped for clear and four to take 10th, and Charlotte Platt did similar for 13th on the nine-year-old Verdi/Padinus stallion Jenson 55.  Jessie Drea and Mullaghdrin Touch the Stars dropped out of contention with four in the first round.

Annabel Shields jumped into second in the 1.20m on the eight-year-old My Casall (Cassini II/Casall), conceding to the runner-up position by two sec.  Molly Andrews eased her mother Julie’s Oklund 14-year-old Wilando B into sixth and William Whitaker jumped a steady clear on the eight-year-old Junior van het Hulst.

Molly landed a win in the 1* 1.10m, registering her first ever International win.  She rode the Renkum Valentino 10-year-old Renkum Aristocrat, impressively claiming the win by almost four seconds.

Joe Clee took fourth on the seven-year-old Eliza in the 1.30m, finishing behind the pace by six seconds.  And Mark Bunting claimed 11th in the 2* 1.35m on the Quasimodo Z 11-year-oldBrennergraaf and Joe also finished 16th on Ferrari.  Also jumping double clear was Lee Williams on Salvador.

And Joe also featured in the seven-year-old, taking fourth aboard Hennessy, three and half sec behind the pace.

A winner the previous day, Annabel and Gerona returned on four faults in the six-year-old this time.
