Matthew Boddy takes his first win at the Winter Equestrian Festival

Matthew Boddy logged his first ever win at the Winter Equestrian Festival, Wellington, jumping the Chamberlain Z/Cantos 12-year-old Capriole M into the top spot of the 1.35m. And the pair did it in style, with 3.59 sec in hand over second-placed Michael Morrissey for the USA on Chance Ste Hermelle.

Matt also rode the Sydney/Monaco 14-year-old Widny into seventh place, and in eighth was Mexico’s Carlos Hank Guerrieiro on new ride Market Irminka – an Irco Mena/Tinkas Boy 11-year-old bred by Derek Ricketts and produced by Tracy Priest and Shane Breen until sold late last year. Four faults in round one prevented Jessica Mendoza from joining the jump-off of the $130,000 grand prix, but only four clears from 44 starters were found. Therefore, Jess’ round on on Toy Boy earned sixth spot. Brazil’s Pedro Junqueira Muylaert took the win with Prince Royal Z MFS.

Jess claimed seventh in the under 25 1.40m speed with Horst van de Mispelaere almost four sec behind the winner.

Sam Hutton jumped for one time fault in round one in the six-year-old on Gablitz to take seventh.
