Lucinda Roche bounces back to form in Oliva Nova

Lucinda Roche, riding for Ireland, has got straight back into it at her first show since breaking her leg before Christmas. She jumped into second in the bronze 1.40m speed at Oliva Nova with WCE Falco, the Cruising/Darco 12-year-old finishing 0.89 sec behind the pace.Dan Neilson slotted Cirrus into fourth in the gold 1.40m speed, 2.24 sec behind the winner, the Netherlands’ Gert Jan Bruggink on Chanyon.

British-based South African Charles Luyckx claimed victory in the silver 1.35m with the Darco 15-year-old Cicero, winning by 1.09 sec. Louise Simpson filled in for husband David – on Irish team duty in Al Ain – and pushed The Jeweller into third, and Trevor Breen was 13th on Escapade H.

Charles also took seventh on Pepito d’Arsain in the silver 1.25m with Louise in 12th on Berlin.

Louise featured in the gold 1.35m, taking fifth on the Lord Z/Darco eight-year-old Jaffar de Bourguignon, 1.56 sec in arrears of Belgian winner Hendrik Denutte on Doxanne B. Scott Brash posted a steady round for 11th on Cademuir and British-based Irishmen were bunched together, Roger McCrea 12th on Jazz’Men de Septon, Trevor Breen 14th with Danique and Shane O’Reilly on Witro in 15th. George Whitaker also jumped clear on the eye-catching Cavas Toftegard.

Dan Neilson was best Brit in the gold 1.45m with ninth on the Wolfgang/Indoctro 13-year-old Newton Nickel. They posted a double clear, a little more than three sec behind the winner, France’s Harodl Boisset on T’Obetty du Domaine. Scott Brash and Hello Senator returned on clear and two time faults in round two for 15th and Louise Simpson had a four fault total from two rounds on Grafit to take 20th.

In the bronze 1.30m, Millie Mason claimed third with the Unbelievable Darco/Hamilton 12-year-old Darc Ory, 1.81 sec behind the winner. Lucinda Roche jumped a steadier clear for 10th on Hebe van’T Palmenhof.

Mackenzie Ray rode into seventh on the 10-year-old mare Tulipe de Baudiere in the bronze 1.20m. And Emily Richardson jumped a steady clear round in the 1.10m speed to take 14th on Altaira. Charles Luyckx eased Balios Ar Park right behind in 15th.
