Dermott Lennon heads the big 1.50m on the Spanish sunshine tour


Ireland's Dermott Lennon was on form to claim the top-billed 1.50m on the Spanish Sunshine tour, Vejer de la Frontera, with the Touchdown 11-year-old Gelvins Touch, winning the speed class by 2.47 sec.

British-based Spaniard Antonio Marinas Soto took third in the 62-strong class with the 15-year-old Cash and Go with Brit Guy Williams in fourth aboard Depardieu van T Kiezelhof. Ireland’s Derek McCoppin eased Zaire into fifth, just ahead ho James Davenport and Tiger in sixth. Harriet Nuttall jumped a steady round on A Touch Imperious for 15th and Ireland’s Chris Megahey was also clear on Seapatrick Cruise Cavalier for 17th.

It was another day, another win for Douglas Duffin and Moonface JX, the Clarius/Couleur Rubin mare jumping into the top spot of the seven-year-old B section by 1.28 sec. Georgie Crumley took 11th on Catoki with Beth Vernon 12th on Moneybroom Dancer. Also jumping clear was Danny Dunne in 17th on For Killy and Sally Hopkinson’s Fadograaf to take 19th.

In the seven-year-old section A, won by Ireland’s Bertram Allen with Fairytale 86, Kayleigh Watts took 10th on Colton Playtime and Pippa Goddard claimed 14th on No Name. Lance Whitehouse took 19th on Whitesparke Blanko and also jumping clear was Graham Gillespie (Fortuna ES and Calvaros Up to Date), Jake Saywell (Arakan), Kayleigh on Kilbarron Rue and Anna Wilks (Knock Out van Paradisj).

Sally Hopkinson topped the five-year-old on the German-bred mare Chilli, winning by 0.38 sec. India Payne took second on Pina Colada Z (Plot Blue/Diamant de semilly) and Alice Palmer claimed fourth with Murphy Hof Ter Zeedycke. Simon Crippen was fifth on Budgie, Louise Simmons took seventh on Hakuna and Abbe Elliott was 10th on Celtic Dreams PSS Z. Jenny Thompson eased Medoc de Toxandria into 11th and Leonie Aitkenhead took 12th with Heart Third. Also jumping clear was Deborah Jackson (Hannibal), Pippa Goddard (Iron Man TW and Hadesh VDS), aura Robinson (H.Millfield Tobias), Danny Dunne (Hutchinson & Happyness), Donald Whitaker (Handstand and Cool Mister), Louise Simmons (Action Z), Spencer Roe (Hero VD Akkerhoeve), Danika Johnsey Plumley (TJ Jolene), Tim Wilks (Elton van het Exelhof Z), Kelly Shannon (Prince van de Waterhoeve), Charlotte Ash (Santender) and Giorgia Distefano (Dincky Toy Z).

Joe Whitaker was 0.71 sec behind the pace to jump into third in the six-year-old section B on the L’Arc de Triomphe-sired Black Pearl Leone. Pippa Goddard slotted Toki II into fourth with Tim Price in 10th on Startaco Dell Usignolo. Pippa also jumped clear on Zoon van London, alongside Joanne Whitaker (Gerton), Kayliegh (Princess Warrior and Rocabella), Matt Sampson (Corofinos Grace), David Wingrove (Grandeur III), Alice Palmer (Glamour Boy) and Anna Wilks (La Force de Tamerville).

Alison Barton claimed second in the section A six-year-old, 0.73 sec behind the winner on the Carambole gelding Genesis. Jessica Crosby was hot on her heels for third with Harvey and Ellen Whitaker eased Quorti into fifth. Jess Dimmock and Billy Fleance was seventh, Spencer Roe slotted Gusto into eighth and Gambler B into 10th, and Christie Tamarin took 14th on Gaga. Also jumping clear was Deborah Jackson (Swing de Landetta Z), Danny Dunne (Gin Fizz and Golden Touch B), Robert Bevis (Gerko III van de Zeilhoek), Tim Wilks (Glory Warrior) and Spencer on Golden Boy.
