John Whitaker is best Brit in the Hong Kong grand prix

A double clear with Team Harmony’s Ornellaia secured fourth place in the concluding Longines Hong Kong grand prix for John Whitaker.

Twelve of the 25 starters reached the jump-off, the nine clears – including John and William Whitaker – joined by two on one time fault and fastest four-faulter Roger Yves Bost on Pegase du Maurier. But the clears claimed the dominated the line-up, with Germany lifting the top two places – Christian Ahlmann taking victory on Caribis Z by 0.64 sec from Ludger Beerbaum and Casello.

John coaxed another clear from the 12-year-old For Pleasure 12-year-old Ornellaia to slot into fourth place, 0.93 sec behind the winner.

Four faults in the jump-off dropped William and Ludwig Criel’s Utamaro D Ecaussines down to ninth.

The Tatler trophy 1.45m speed was all about families. Belgain twins Olivier andNicola Philippaerts dominated, taking first and second. Olivier took the win on H&M Challenge vd Begijnakker Z by an impressive 2.86 sec over Nicola with Ustina Sitte.

And William and his uncle John claimed third and fourth. William was the quicker on this occasion, in third on the Chin Chin 12-year-old Fento Chin S with John bringing Old Lodge’s Berlin nine-year-old Leen OL into fourth.
