John Whitaker features in the opening class in Hong Kong

John Whitaker eased Leen OL into sixth in the opening EEM Trophy 1.45m speed at the Longines Hong Kong Masters. It was a steady round for the Berlin/Kannan nine-year-old mare, finishing more than six sec behind the winner, Spain’s Pilar Lucrecia Cordon on Coriana van Klapscheut.

William Whitaker also guided Ludwig Criel’s Diamant de Semilly 13-year-old Utamaro D Ecaussines into a clear round to take 13th.In the Hong Kong Jockey Club trophy 1.50m, William jumped a super clear on Fento Chin S but was one of three competitors to pick up one time fault in an otherwise penalty-free round. Nonetheless, it still qualified him for the jump-off as 12 of the 26 competitors went forward to round two. And the Chin Chin/Carthago 12-year-old provided a clear for William to finish on a total of one fault and take seventh spot.

John Whitaker returned on four faults with a fresh Ornellaia.

Switzerland’s Martin Fuchs claimed the win on Clooney, just 0.09 sec ahead of France’s Simon Delestre on Chesall Zimequest with Italy’s Emanuele Gaudiano in third on Caspar.
