Lauren Edwards gets the Costa del Sol tour off to a flying start
The Costa del Sol tour in Mijas, Spain, got underway with the young horse classes. Lauren Edwards hit the ground running, doubling up with five and six-year-old wins.
Brits filled the top three places in the six-year-old. Lauren took a commanding victory on Kevin Cooper and Andy Doswell’s home-bred Pall Mall H/Kannan mare Expresso with a 2.19 sec margin.
Carron Nicol had to settle for second and third with the Diamant de Semilly/Sandro Boy stallion Galerius and her Fantaland/Remondo home-bred Moonraker. Jumping double clears was Ben Raistrick with Dan Wright’s Cool Boy (Coco Jambo/Justinian), Lauren Edwards and second ride Kesara 22 (Kannan/Grandilot) and Eloise Guy on Gigidermie (Mylord Carthago/Clinton) for 13th, 19th and 22nd respectively. Adrian Whiteway posted clear and four on Kimba and Lara Whiteway returned on five with Comporta de Mies.
Brits also took the top three in the five-year-old, Lauren underscoring her talent by taking the top two places. The Cardento/Grandilot mare Carumba took the win with a 0.65 sec, pushing Breit Star (Breitling/Sir Corland) into second. Ben Raistrick claimed third aboard Hessel (VDL Sheraton/Cantos) and also took sixth with Heaven Can Wait E (Up To Date/Cavalier). Sophie Garfield-Bennet was also double clear on the Adagio-sired Tall Hot Blond for ninth and Carron Nicol incurred just one time fault on the Fantaland-sired Goldeneye for 18th.
Richard Howley hit immediate form. The Yorkshire-based Irishman sailed straight into the top spot of the seven-year-olds on Goulton Emperor Claudius (Zilando/Temple Sandor Z) with just 0.06 sec to spare.
Richard also finished 13th with a steadier round on Renkum Ruby Rouge. Stacey Babes was also double clear on Flairvona (Air Jordan/Numero Uno) for 18th and Carron Nicol posted clear and four on Finnegan D.
