Shaunie Greig is out to retain her Royal International 138cm title. She dominated the first of the 138cm second rounds of the 2017 season, claiming the top two places with Buttons Two and Drumaclan Flight – exactly the results she achieved in the 2016 final at Hickstead.
Sebastian Marmont jumped into third to take Saturday’s final qualifying place on offer with Hot Prospect II, a 21-year-old mare he took over from sister Imogen 12 months ago.
Taking fourth at missing out on Hickstead qualification was Madison Heath on Sonas Barney – a winner at HOYS for previous rider Nicole Lockhead Anderson. Claudia Moore was fifth with My Bugsy Malone and Harriette Jones picked up sixth place on Kilpatrick Fiona.
The first of the 128cm qualifiers was shared equally by Charlie Atkinson and Isabella Snowden.
Charlie is going from strength to strength. From winning the 10 and under at Scope just a few months ago, Charlie has moved up to and conquered top 128cm level with Ria Scott’s wonderful Bunbury Conquest. They capitalised on their win at Liverpool International to taking the top ticket in the first of 2017’s 128cm second round to qualify for the prestigious Royal International Horse Show.
They shared the top spot Isabella Snowden and Penchwintan Glynle. Fifth at Liverpool and fourth at HOYS, this pair showed their consistency by jumping clear after clear, and they are now Hickstead-bound.
Owen Carpenter, who has only just taken over the ride on the long-striding Brookhall Glimpse from his brother Iwan, netted Saturday’s third and final qualifying spot.
Just missing out on the coveted Hickstead qualification was Alena Hughes in fourth on Mathews Girl and Izabella Rogers on Whinney Lass.
Madison Heath jumped straight into victory in the Graham Heath 128/138cm handicap on the 138cm The Jacaloupe. Heidi Palin took second with Tantassaig Girl and Jake Gibson slotted Llettycrudd Cardi Bach into third. Tabitha Kyle claimed fourth on Borderhill William with Izabella fifth aboard Whinney Lass and Olivia Shepherd sixth on Arrow Head Quiver.
Ava Vernon topped the British Showjumping 128/138cm handicap special on Mister Pebbles. Toby Fry jumped into second spot on Bubble Pop Electric with Tabitha Kyle in third on Playboy Van De Zoetewei. Charlie Atkinson claimed fourth on Daffodil and Abbie Letham was fifth on Noahs Lady.
