Jessica Hewitt is flying high in Liverpool

Jessica Hewitt, 17, continued on her incredible run to head another amateur class in Liverpool. Winner of both New Year’s Day competitions, Jess also claimed victory in the Horse and Hound amateur 1.30m on the final day riding Pat Squibb’s Rusty.

The 19-year-old by Kalusha belies his years and matches Jess for speed and enthusiasm, flying into an unbeatable lead under Jess’ guidance to take the class by 1.38 sec.

“He’s amazing in the ring, so smooth, but he’s so different and lazy at home,” said Jess, after taking her prize on the pdium from Horse and Hound's Margaret Shaw.

Jess had carefully plotted her jump-off route.

“But it didn’t go to plan! I went on seven strides to the last instead of six and really thought someone would beat me.”

Ireland’s Aisling Byrne had dominated the jump-off but had to setle for second and third on the 15-year-old mare Wellview Classic Dream and the Chippendale Z 11-year-old Celeste SPB Z.

Five provided double clears with Laura Johnson in fourth on the Berlin 11-year-old Dakar RS and Leo Lorimer jumped into fifth with Candela 50. Aimee Jones and Lilly 483 took sixth with clear and four.

Four faults in a quick time on Celtic Cavalier in the second phase of the amateur 1.20m denied Jess total domination, and the top two places were taken by the USA.

Rosalie Biedron claimed the win on VDL Wizard just 0.06 sec ahead of her fellow American Andrienne Dixon with Killossery Kaiden.

Rosalie, 16, from New Jersey, is currently based in Ireland with Greg Broderick and was competing at her first International show.

"I feel really lucky to have Wizard, he has the brains of a saint and looks after me," said Rosalie, who has been in Ireland since September.

Olli Fletcher was best Brit in third with Little Business and fourth went to Drew Coogan on Bachelor K. Gabriella Horan eased Costa III into fifth ahead of Brian Thompson in sixth aboard Millfield Cascade. Seven provided double clears with Hannah Fowler in seventh on R Colette.
