She made it three! If there was a pony grand slam, Jodie Hall-McAteer landed the title in style. Jodie, 16, bowed out of her pony career on a high. After winning at HOYS and Olympia on the amazing Tixylix, Jodie and the evergreen, feisty 18-year-old mare made it a hat-trick with victory in the POYS sponsored 148cm at Liverpool.
“I couldn’t have wished for a better finish to ponies,” said an emotional Jodie. “I’m a little bit sad as it is my final time in the ring with her and she has won everything for me. I don’t think there’s a pony that exists that is quite so consistent or as quirky as she is.”
The pair gave their usual speedy performance to win by more than three and a half seconds.
Antonia Platt provided the only other clear with a steadier round on Carnhill Luna to take second place.
And Bobbie Heath – second at Olympia – settled for third on this occasion on Air Flow with the fastest four faults in the five-pony jump-off. They were still 0.78 sec behind the ultra-quick Jodie.
First to go Tahnia Jordan-Jones slipped into fourth with Sulan Hollywood Knight with Scotland’s Nicole Lockhead Anderson in fifth aboard Cappagh Supreme. Emma Crawford claimed sixth with the fastest four in round one on Stars Surprise.
A winner here last year, Angel Tough started this show in winning mode to take victory in the first of the Amateur classes on new ride Corgary Atoz. Angel, 13, only acquired the ride on the Aldatus Z/Cavalier 13-year-old mare for a month jumping at 1.10/1.20m level.
“I’ve got two horses here this year so I’m going for six wins, I don’t like to share!” said Angel, who will be competing alongside her mum Lynsey. “Mum supports me but I always tell her I’m going to beat her.”
Ollie Fletcher claimed second place on Little Business, almost one sec in arrears with Ben Raistrick in third aboard Top Limit. Camilla Bingham provided the only other double clear in the six-strong jump-off for fourth on Billy Belle with with Melissa Garry fifth on Hotesse and Bobbie Heath sixth on Floretta.
