The runners and riders at Liverpool 4*

Eight nations, 38 riders and 97 horses will travel to Liverpool for the spectacular three-day 4* show in its second year following major success at its inaugural meeting last year. Included in the line-up for Britain is crowd favourite, the legendary John Whitaker - seen here with Echo of Light. John also competes with Lord of Arabia and his Olympic ride Ornellaia.

The Whitaker family are well-represented at this show. John's nephew William - now based in Belgium with Ludwig and Yasmine Criel - takes the Criel's Fento Chin S and Utamaro D Ecaussines and his Hickstead Derby winner Glenavadra Brilliant.

Joe Whitaker takes Lareeco, Lavarno (pictured) and Charmeur Z.

And Michael Whitaker has his Rio 2016 ride Cassionato Z (pictured), JB's Hots Stuff and Viking.

Number 13 in the world Scott Brash is another British contender with Hello Guv'Nor (pictured), Hello Forever and Hello Annie.

Another crowd favourite Tim Stockdale takes Tornado Des Monts (pictured) and Miss Fritz.

Anna Power enjoyed success at HOYS and Olympia, and takes Chesterfield Z (pictured) and Crack Van Overis Z to Liverpool.

A winner last year at the inaugural show, Nicole Pavitt is riding Unesca at the Echo Arena this time.

Chloe Aston is another British lady out for victory. She takes Amigo T (pictured), Kolibri Classic and Cecilia.

Robert Smith has three rides - Cimano E (pictured), Bavi and Ilton.

Top lady rider Laura Renwick takes her Olympia winner Con Chilli, Van De Vivaldi - both owned by Yazmin Pinchen - and Rembrandt Blue.

William Funnell has Billy McCain (pictured), Billy Cool and Billy Angelo.

Julie Andrews is jumping with Ayrton IV (pictured), Havanna Du Cavron and Wilando B.

Joe Clayton takes Conman JX.

Always a danger against the clock - Guy Williams will be chasing victory with Titus (pictured, Casper De Muze and Depardieu Van T Kiezelhof.

James Smith joins fellow Scot Scott Brash with Tyson Uno.

And is joined by another Smith! Holly Smith (nee Gillott) has the big-jumping Quality Old Joker at Liverpool.

Corinne Collins takes Dolores P (pictured) and Bugatti B.

And David Murdoch rounds off the British contingent - all 19 riders - with Senor D.

Ireland fields 10 riders - they are:

Anthony Condon has Balzac (pictured), Chinook II and Fiona VH Lemmenshof.

Billy Twomey takes Ardcolum Duke (pictured), Diaghilev and Pewit Nono.

Shane Breen has Acoustik Solo Du Baloubet (pictured), Golden Hawk and Ispwich Van De Wolfsakker.

Fellow Irishman Denis Lynch takes Campino 344 (pictured), Blinky Bill 6 and Copabella Vegas

Former world champion Dermott Lennon has Loughview Lou-Lou (pictured), Valent and Vampire.

Michael Duffy is jumping Belcanto Z (pictured) and ESI Hazel.

Paul Kennedy has three rides - Cartown Danger Mouse (pictured), Datero H and EIS Isaura.

He's joined by fellow Irishmen Greg Broderick on Charmeur and Zuidam, Michael Kearins with Evabellie W, Gran Canyon Van HD and Hudson III and Peter Smyth on Cavalier Rusticana.

And British-based Angelie von Essen represents Sweden with Newton Abbot (pictured), Cream Sheridan and Daniel.

Another five nations are also represented in Liverpool.

Constant van Peasschen jumps for Belgium with Calore Van De Helle, Hamlet VD Donkhoeve and Isidoor Van De Helle and is joined by fellow Belgian Wilm Vermeir on DM Jaqmotte, Gamene V'T Stekje and Hacienda D'Eversem.

Germany has Felix Hassmann (Balance 30, Cayenne WZ and SL Brazonado) and Tobias Meyer (Anna Jo, Cathleen 28, LB Cormint and Edesa's Chillando Blue.

Italy is represented by Piergiorgio Bucci on Cuarta and Ugano De Coquerie and Emanuele Gaudiano with Gordanus, Haiti Van De Vinkhoeve and Inca's Big Think.

Sanne Thijssen flies the flag for the Netherlands on Captain Cooper, Celine M Z and Ulena. And Janika Sprunger jumps for Switzerland on Aris CMS, Bonne Chance CW and Ninyon.
