Beth Vernon is a winner in Lier
Beth Vernon jumped to victory in the 2* 1.35m in Lier, Belgium, on long-term campaigner Omane Des Faux. The 14-year-old skipped round the track to win by 0.71 sec in the 70-strong class.
Rose Moss rode Caliva into fifth in the 2* 1.30m, the eight-year-old Calido mare finishing 1.85 sec behind the winner. Olivia Skinner was just behind in fifth on the Corland/Quick Star nine-year-old Cinderella. Olivia guided the Concorde 10-year-old Sir Henry IV into fourth in the 1* 1.20m speed, 1.64 sec behind the winner. Joe Clee was a little steadier on the Bamako De Muze six-year-old Elize for 13th place.
Rose was best Brit in the world ranking 1.45m, taking 20th place on Carlos F with five faults in round one. Only five clears from starters was produced, with the jump-off headed by Denmark’s Soren Pedersen on Tailormade Chaloubet.
Joe Clee was best Brit in the five and six-year-old final, taking seventh on the Der Senaat/Actionbreaker five-year-old De Flor III Z one and half sec behind the pace. Jumping pleasing, steady double clears was Michael Potter on the Balou Du Rouet six-year-old Grandee and Jamie Wingrove with the Carrera VDL five-year-old Genesis HB.
Steady clears for the British seven-year-olds was the order of the day. Jamie Wingrove eased Ephonie P (Vingino/Mermus R) into 15th, William Whitaker took 17th on Furmint (Ustinov/Claudio’s Son) and 19th with Justin Van De Zandehoeve (Emerald Van’t Ruytershof/Nonstop) and Michael Potter finished 23rd on Just A Dream d’15 (Cicero Z/Faram).
