Annabel Shields is a fraction away from winning Roosendaal's world ranking 1.45m

Annabel Shields was just 0.29 sec from winning the 2* world ranking 1.45m in Roosendaal, Holland, with the super-consistent Mr Blue 13-year-old Wet Wet Wet.

They were in flying form to set a sizzling time in the nine-strong jump-off – yielded from 79 starters – but they were pipped at the post by the Netherlands’ Kevin Beerse on Camelot. Four faults in round one dropped Leonie Aitkenhead and Clane K to 17th. Louise Saywell and Feigtling also returned on four faults to finish lower down the line, and Chloe Aston’s Kolibri Classic finished on five faults.

Louise guided Sue Davies’ seven-year-old Luidam daughter Pewit Nono into third in the 2* 1.35m. The eye-catching, scopey chestnut – usually ridden by Billy Twomey – finished 1.80 sec behind the winner.

And Louise jumped into sixth in the medium tour 1.40m with the Casado 10-year-old Cordalis 7, 0.78 sec in arrears in a hotly-contended, 73-strong class. Chloe Aston also posted a double clear on the seven-year-old stallion Cornado’s Boy RC to fill the 21st spot.
