Big Star is sidelined for six weeks

December 5, 2016

Unfortunately, Big Star – Gary and Beverley Widdowson’s amazing stallion ridden to victory at the Rio Olympics by Nick Skelton – will not compete at Geneva or Olympia this year.

Nick explained “He has twisted a joint, it’s nothing terrible but four to six weeks rest from top level competition is the order of the day; and it goes without saying that is what we will do. We are all extremely disappointed that he will not be making his presence felt at both these shows but trust everyone understands that his welfare is paramount.

“He is fine to be ridden and exercised gently so we are still aiming to parade him at Olympia. He is such a character, who could possibly deprive him of being in the spotlight once again, especially when it is on home soil at such a special show!”

Rio individual gold medallist Nick – shortlisted for BBC’s SPOTY – will be making appearances throughout the week at Olympia. The Sports Personality of the Year award will take place on the 18th December and will be broadcast live on Sunday evening.

To vote online, you will need to pre-register on the following link http://bbc.in/2fJy82p How to vote by telephone will be broadcast during the evening so please do tune in early on in the programme, as the voting window may only be an hour long!
