Robert Bevis jumps to a win in Rouen
Robert Bevis jumped straight to the top in the 3* 1.50m world ranking speed at Rouen, France, with his great campaigner Courtney Z. The Chellano Z/Major De La Cour 15-year-old grey gelding had 0.46 sec in hand to take the win over the Netherlands’ Gert Jan Bruggink on MCB Ulke.
Nicole Pavitt posted a slightly steadier round for sixth with the Cornet Obolensky 10-year-old Areeb OL, more than three sec behind Robert. Tim Stockdale took 14th on the Andiamo nine-year-old Miss Fritz.
James Smith tackled the Puissance with the 10-year-old Tyson Uno to take equal second with two others after reaching the fifth and final round. Only the winner, Belgium’s Christophe Vanderhasselt on Edel Vitseroel, came home clear to take the lion’s share of the money, with James picking up 1,266 euro after posting four faults. Guy Williams and Titus went out in round three and Robert Bevis jumped two clears on Pebbles before opting to withdraw.
Jemma Kirk jumped into third place in the 3* 1.35m accumulator on the l’Amour du Bois nine-year-old Tchoupi Pironniere, 1.31 sec behind the winner. Robert Smith eased the eight-year-old Dulf Van Den Bisschop stallion Ilton into fifth with Nicole Pavitt on Doucardi and Laura Renwick’s Shiraz II also jumping for maximum scores for 12th and 16th places.
