Jamie Wingrove scores his biggest win with new ride Bart

Jamie Wingrove scored his biggest win at De Peelbergen, Kronenberg in the 2* Roelefsen Trucks 1.40m with Helen Rees’ Lord Z/Levantos 10-year-old Bart VI, a ride he acquired just a month ago.

The pair had given an insight of what was to come just a week earlier when winning at British Showjumping’s Staffordshire area 22 show, but here was bigger and better against 53 International competitors.

“It was a tough course and I’m so pleased with him and he jumped the best he has jumped with me,” said Jamie, who is still at the get-to-know-you stage with the scopey Dutch-bred gelding.

It was a one-two for Britain, with Millie Allen slotting the eager little stallion Balou Star into second, the Balou Du Rouet/Quick Star 11-year-old jumpng the track with ease but finishing 0.47 sec in arrears. Four faults in round one dropped fellow Brit Paul Bevan and Deangelo down to 21st.

A mammoth 98 contended the 1* 1.30m, with Jamie guiding Ephonie P into fourth with a double clear 1.16 sec behind the winner. William Whitaker eased Junior Van Het Hulst into 10th with a steadier clear in the second round and Elliott Gordon took 17th on Einstein. Paul Bevan also returned a clean sheet with Coco Vittorio for 22nd, as did Ashlee Harrison on Zahra II for 25th.

Nina Barbour posted a clear on Tracy Priest’s Chambertin 16-year-old Calle in the 2* 1.35m speed to take 11th. Jamie Wingrove was close on her heels for 12th with the eight-year-old Grupello Z, Elliott Gordon took 15th with another eight-year-old, Capitano, and Millie Allen was also clear on Lowellie for 24th in the 88-strong class.

Jessica Mendoza claimed equal third in the 1* young horse 1.30/1.35m on the Toulon six-year-old Jonker Van Sombeke, sharing with Sweden’s Jonna Ekberg on Vedric. They were 0.85 sec behind the pace.
