Guy Williams is flying high in Rouen
Guy Williams was firing on all cylinders at Rouen, France, doubling up with two wins. He topped the 3* 1.45m on the Lancelot 16-year-old Titus – no mean feat with 90 in the class. A total of 28 accessed the jump-off with speed merchant Guy claiming a whole second in hand over second-placed Abdelkebir Ouadder for Morocco on Quickly De Kreisker.
Robert Smith on Cimano E and Laura Renwick with Con Chilli both had a rail down in the jump-off for 15th and 16th respectively, but they still couldn’t match Guy’s time. James Smith and Balibu had one time fault in round one and Tim Stockdale returned five faults on Tornado Des Monts.
Guy forged ahead in the 3* 1.40m speed with Casper De Muze, but had to settle to share the top spot with France’s Gregory Cottard on Une Futee de WY after they equalled the time. Nicole Pavitt (Areeb OL), Jemma Kirk (Tchoupi Pironniere), James Smith (Tyson Uno) and Robert Smith (Bavi) all returned four faults.
Jemma posted a double clear on the Carolus II/Baloubet Du Rouet 10-year-old Carbani for 10th in the 3* 1.45m, just 0.07 sec ahead of Laura Renwick, in 11th on the Vagabond De La Pomme/Darco seven-year-old Shiraz II. Tim Stockdale also came home on a clean sheet in a steadier time with Miss Fritz to finish down the line and Nicole jumped for clear and four on Doucardi.
In the 1* 1.35m, Kirstie Leightley took seventh on Tahsi d’La Verrerie, three and a half sec behind the pace. Joe stockdale dropped out of contention with four faults on Gunner. Victoria Hewson and Sparco jumped double clear for ninth in the 1.20m.
