Billy Twomey is second in Verona 5* on Ardcolum Duke

Ireland’s Billy Twomey was 0.82 sec in arrears for second in the Kask 1.50m speed on Ardcolum Duke at Verona’s 5* meeting. Belgium’s Olivier Philippaerts took the win on Ustina Sitte. Ben Maher eased new ride Don Vito, a Quaprice Z/Jus De Pomme eight-year-old, into fourth and Scott Brash picked up two time penalties in an easy round on Ursula XII for 14th.

A rail on the floor in the 16-horse jump-off of the Prestige 1.55m dropped Scott and Hello Guv’Nor from second to seventh. France’s Kevin Staut claimed victory on Ayade de Septin et HDC. Ben Maher on Diva and Shane Breen aboard Golden Hawk both returned four faults in round one.

British-based Irishman Michael Duffy took fourth in the Sony 1.45m speed on Castleforbes Talitha, a Cardenio/Baloubet Du Rouet nine-year-old, to finish 2.64 sec behind the pace. Fellow Irishman Shane Breen claimed ninth on the eight-year-old Ispwich van De Wolfsakker and Ben was 12th on Cliff 67. Scott jumped an easy round on Hello M’Lord for two time faults and 19th spot.

Amy Inglis jumped into ninth place in the 2* under 25 1.35m on the Upsilon Van De Heffinck 12-year-old Every Way with a steady clear 4.23 sec behind the winner.
