Nicole Pavitt jumps to a double in Liege
Nicole Pavitt posted a double victory in Liege, Belgium, winning the 3* 1.45m and the seven-year-old. Always a danger against the clock, and she guided Prince Sultan Saud’s feisty Chellano Z daughter Shahenaz into the top spot in the 1.45m Table C speed with a quick clear.
Francois Mathy Jr and Guy Williams were faster, but both hit a rail to hand Nicole the win. With the added seconds, Francois took second place on Falco Van De Clehoeve half a sec in arrears, and Guy took third with Casper De Muze a fraction behind.
Nicole’s second triumph came in the seven-year-old 1.25m, taking the win on her home-bred Unbelievable Darco stallion Gemmarco 16 by 0.21 sec. Sam Hutton posted a steadier double clear for 12th on the Vingino/Voltaire mare Elyah Lalan.
Guy Williams was just 0.57 sec off a win in the 3* 1.40m, the 16-year-old Titus slotting into second place behind Begium’s Gregory Wathelet on Mjt Nevados S. Four faults in the second phase dropped Sam Hutton and the Verdi nine-year-old Carita Gratia to 20th place.
Sam Hutton was best-placed Brit in the 3* 1.50m small grand prix on the nine-year-old Quidam De Revel/Narcos II stallion Happydam. Five double clears were produced in the 12-horse jump-off, four faults dropping the pair down to eighth. Robert Smith on Ilton had four faults in round one and Robert Whitaker’s Catwalk returned on eight.
