Laura Renwick is on form in Doha
Laura Renwick was denied a win by just 0.28 sec with the talented Obos Quality eight-year-old mare MHS Washington in the 5* 1.45m two-phase, having to settle for second behind Germany’s Daniel Deusser and Happiness Van T Paradijs. Brits were bunched in the lower places. Jessica Mendoza claimed fifth on Constance with John Whitaker slotting Argento just behind in sixth and Michael Whitaker on JB’s Hot Stuff in seventh.
At his second show since recovering from a bout of colic at the Rio Olympics, Gary and Beverly Widdowson’s 11-year-old stallion Cassionato jumped into sixth in the 5* 1.45m speed under the expert guidance of Michael Whitaker. Ireland’s Cian O’Connor – who travelled to Doha a day after the birth of his new daughter – took the win on Callisto.
Alexandra Thornton took 11th on Caballero 84 and Scott Brash claimed 16th with a very steady round on Hello M’Lady to return to time faults.
