Ellen Whitaker is back on form in Oliva Nova

Ellen Whitaker was a fraction away from winning the Gold 1.35m at the MET Autumn tour, Oliva Nova, on the big-jumping seven-year-old Arena UK Winston, finishing second by 0.71 sec. Ben Raistrick took fifth on Qashqai Van Het Veldhof with Alice Watson in ninth on KEC Havana and British-based Irishmen Michael Duffy (Dominant H) and David Simpson (Polystar I) in 10th and 11th.

British riders dominated the Bronze 1.40m, lifting the top three places. Jodie Hall-McAteer posted a great win on Charmeur, a Calvaro Z/Heartbreaker nine-year-old bred in Scotland by Beth and Graham Gillespie. She beat Felix McCartney on Fortune Forever 2 to the top spot by 0.31 sec with Joanne Whitaker filling third place on Contendro Star. Richard Jenkinson and Adorette W finished 12th.

Chloe Winchester was best Brit in the Gold 1.45m grand prix, jumping double clear for fifth on the Berlin/Grand Corrado 10-year-old Belle Fleur 38. They were more than three sec behind the winner, France’s Harold Boisset on Quolita Z. A total of 15 from 79 starters contended the jump-off, with Spencer Roe on the Padinus 13-year-old Wonder Why and David McPherson with the Diarado/Cassini I seven-year-old Dicas also posting double clears for seventh and eighth. One time fault prevented Alice Watson joining them in round two, and she took 16th on The Precious One.

Alice took some consolation in the Gold 1.40m speed, taking victory on the Cevin Z 11-year-old Billy Lemon by exactly one second. Ireland’s Michael Kearins was second on Severly Hille – a selle Francais 10-year-old produced in Britain by Jude Burgess. Fellow Irish competitors Michael Duffy (Castleforbes Talitha) and David Simpson (Starfighter) were close behind for third and fourth respectively. Abbe Elliott slotted Wilandri E into eighth with Louise Simpson 10th on Double Deuce Retto and Louise Whitaker on Udget Du Rozel in 14th place.

Brits filled six of the top 10 places in the Bronze 1.30m accumulator with Ashley Ray taking second on the Careful/For Pleasure eight-year-old stallion Care For, 1.45 sec away from winning. Victoria Bennett took third on Brandon and Will Edwards was close behind in fifth aboard SHW Candies B. Felix McCartney eased Chintan Z into sixth, Joanne Whitaker and Andorra took eighth and Theo Simpson was 10th on Alvin Only. Anja Jackson on Liberty 348 and Charlotte Alpin aboard Delanini also provided maximum scores for 16th and 18th.

Mackenzie Ray scored victory in the Bronze 1.25m with the Lord Z/Baloubet Du Rouet 11-year-old Audrey, winning with more than three sec in hand. Tom Hollins collected eighth on How About Now and Olivia Gent was just behind in ninth aboard Carnavals Wonder. Four faults dropped Ashley Ray (Quattro d’Ete), Mark Poskitt (Kilmanahan Diamond) and Theo Simpson (Flinstering) out of the running for 15th, 17th and 19th.

Romilly Simmons eased the Kalaska De Semilly six-year-old Rukkato into second in the Bronze 1.15m, 0.69 sec away from winning. Ashley Ray and Exclusive VI finished in seventh with Nissi Sabina Ladell on Exclusive Vant Schaaphof in eighth.
