Richard Howley is in the mix in Mijas

Ireland’s Richard Howley was best British-based rider in the world ranking 1.45m speed in Mijas on the Costa del Sol tour, taking sixth on the Tygo/Wellington nine-year-old Chinook 1.73 sec behind the pace. The Netherlands’ Leon Thijssen claimed the win on Captain Cooper. James Smith claimed seventh and ninth aboard Tyson Uno and Balibu with William Funnell sandwiched between in eighth on Billy Onslow. Richard also stood 10th on second ride Calmond. Lucy Townley stepped up on the eight-year-old Billy Buckingham to jump clear for 15th.

William Funnell took fourth on the Billy Congo nine-year-old Billy Cool in the 1.35m, 2.42 sec behind the winner. Peter Charles jumped double clear on ABC Quantum Cruise for 10th. Richard Howley (Dolores) and Lucy Townley (Billy Herman) finished on one time fault in round one for 14th and 15th respectively.

Brits took the top two places in the Master 1.30m, Adrian Whiteway scoring his first International victory on new ride Cash Point – a Com Air 10-year-old owned by Sharon Baldwin and previously ridden by Geoff Luckett. Alex Gill was more than two and a half sec behind for second place with the Billy Mexico seven-year-old Billy Salsa. Harry Charles netted fifth on the Diamant De Semilly-sired Valkiry De Zance with his father Peter in eighth on Foline. Jamie Gornall took ninth on new ride Cristobal 21 – formerly with Matt Sampson and John Whitaker – and 17th on the former Ellen Whitaker ride Le Beau. Lara Whiteway was in 10th on Cocos Moon River and 15th aboard Pericles and Daisy Davis 12th with Anatar II.

Anna Power eased new ride Galizano, a Holsteiner eight-year-old with La Belle Orion/Landgraf bloodlines, into fourth in the premium 1.30m more than five sec in arrears to the winner, The Netherlands’Leon Thijssen and Dimpf HDH. Morgan Kent claimed sixth on Westpoint Baros and 12th on Notis Me. Victoria Shanks finished 17th on Cerosse Z.

Lara Whiteway topped the premium 1.20m on Cavalia WH, an Indoctro nine-year-old, taking the win by one and a half sec. Victoria Hewson finished seventh on Sparco.

In the 1.10m, Julie Slade took third and eighth with Billy Gogo and Billy Angelo and Honor Draycott finished in 12th with Lux De Lux.
