Laura Robinson is top Brit in Mijas
Laura Robinson hit form in Mijas on the Costa del Sol tour, winning the feature, world ranking 1.45m on Jonti. Laura returned home with 0.84 sec to spare on the Lando 12-year-old, pushing the Netherlands’ Johnny Pals into second on A Lee Spring Shower. Steven Franks jumped into fourth on Carlow Cruiser and also took ninth aboard Abdul Aziz. Lara Whiteway claimed eighth on VDL Groep Alitta and James Smith slotted Tyson Uno just behind in ninth.
Brits dominated the 1.40m speed with Max Routledge topping the proceedings on Carus Royale by more than three sec. Adrian Whiteway slotted Anytime II into second spot with Richard Howley hot on his heels in third aboard Calmond. Steven Franks took fourth on the Billy Congo son Brutus III. William Funnell jumped a steadier clear on Billy McCain for 14th.
Adrian also claimed second in the 1.35m, missing out on a win with the Contendro-sired Carambow by 2.25 sec. Daisy Davis eased Newmarket Rare Jewel into fifth with Jamie Gornall on Christian 25 in 12th, Max Routledge in 18th on Sieco and Emily Llewellyn taking 20th aboard Ella IV.
Richard Howley claimed his third win in a row in the seven-year-old, on this occasion riding the Verdi/Zeus gelding Epke. His first two wins were on Carpe Diem Z – this time in ninth with four faults in this speed class. Epke took the win by 1.72 sec and Richard also filled 10th place on Lord Boy. Alex Gill eased Billy Fraulein into fourth and Billy Holly Blue into seventh. Jane Davies on the home-bred Egalini claimed eighth. Steven Franks took 13th on Amethyst.
Lucy Townley was best Brit in the six-year-old, taking second on the Chacco Blue-sired Billy Penny, finishing 1.78 sec behind the winner. Lucy also claimed sixth on Billy Dorito and eighth with Billy Pringle. Steven Franks eased Kan Do into third with Max Routledge in fifth on Firkov Du Rouet and 12th on Freezing Rain.
Emily Llewellyn claimed fourth in the five-year-old on the Widney gelding Mr Bullseye, more than 10 sec behind the winner with a steady clear. Laura Robinson took sixth on new ride Millfield Cornelious – previously ridden by Adrian Whiteway – and Emily claimed eighth on second ride Balenciaga. Olivia March was 10th on Dartmoor Morning Mist.
