Richard Howley takes a win on day one on the Costa del Sol tour
British-based Irishman Richard Howley topped the seven-year-old on the handsome Clintissimo Z/Cassini I gelding Carpe Diem Z on day on of the Costa del Sol tour, Mijas, Spain. The pair claimed the win by 0.36 sec from Alex Gill on the Billy Congo daughter Billy Fraulein. Alex also slotted Billy Holly Blue (Chacco Blue/Vechta) into fourth in a closely-fought contest.
Jane Davies eased the British-bred Cheers Cassini/Jalisco B gelding Egalini into ninth with Jamie Gornall in 13th on the Clinton sired Clarence X. Richard was also 19th and 20th on Lord Boy and Epke and Steven Franks took 22nd on Amethyst.
Max Routledge and the Baloubet Du Rouet/Voltaire stallion Firkov Du Rouet jumped into second place in the six-year-old, just 0.36 sec off the pace. Steven Franks eased the Kannan gelding Kan Do into fifth with Lucy Townley in seventh on Billy Penny, ninth on Billy Pringle and 10th with Billy Dorito. Jane Davies was eighth on Cipriani with Max on second ride Freezing Rain in 12th and Jamie Gornall 15th aboard Count Codex – all jumping double clear.
Olivia March claimed second in the five-year-old on the Urkel mare Dartmoor Morning Mist with a steady double clear, nore than six sec behind the winner. Emily Llewellyn was just behind for third on the Widney sired Mr Bullseye and Laura Robinson took 10th with four and clear on the Cornet Obolensky stallion Millfield Cornelious.
