Jessica Mendoza posts a win in Vilamoura
Jessica Mendoza conjured up a win in Vilamoura with Ramiro De Belle Vue. The 15-year-old gelding headed the Ladies 1.35m by a clear one and half secs to claim victory over the nearest rival.
Ben Maher eased new ride Jule Van Den Tinnenpot, a Calvaro/Major De La Cour seven-year-old mare, into third in the 1.40m, 1.17 sec behind the winner, Ireland’s Darragh Kenny on Picolo. Jessica jumped a steadier double clear for ninth on the Kashmir Van Schuttershof 12-year-old Zahra II.
Georgie Crumley netted third place in the 1.35m speed on the Renkum Off-Centre/Quick Star 10-year-old Renkum Centre Star – bred by in Britain Henk Minderman. They finished 3.85 sec behind the pace. Jay Buxton claimed seventh on another British-bred, the Arturo 8 13-year-old High Offley Arturos Catch was bred by Pat Morris. Ben jumped a steady round with Sarena to pick up three faults.
The Joker proved the downfall of Harriet Nuttall and Highland Cruiser in the 1.30m accumulator, and they dropped to 12th. Philip Spivey suffered a similar fate on VDL Cassius for 15th.
Jodie Caudle was 0.79 sec away from victory to take second in the 1.10m on Blue Skyliner with Arianna Kuligowski in fifth on Coco Fino – both jumping double clears. Barry Dove and Debbie finished in 12th.Jay Buxton and Strides Foxy Lady took ninth in the 1.20m speed.
