Jessica Mendoza is victorious in Vilamoura

Jessica Mendoza posted victory in Vilamoura’s 1.40m speed with the 15-year-old Ramiro De Belle Vue on the final day of week two. They finished 1.31 sec ahead of nearest rival, France’s Rogelio Pellarano on Temporelle De Fritot with Ireland’s Darragh Kenny in third on Picolo.

Jessica was also 17th on second ride Jonker Van Sombeke, just behind Jay Buxton and Sekhmet De Keralys in 15th. Jude Burgess and Comback De Fremis finished 20th on four faults.

Israel’s Danielle Goldstein celebrated her brand new partnership with Lizziemary by heading the 2* 1.45m grand prix, winning by 0.38 sec. The 10-year-old British-bred Cabri D’Elle daughter – was bred by Mike Dawson and produced by Emma-Jo Slater for Kim Barzilay before going to Billy Twomey.

Four faults in the 16-horse jump-off dropped Philip Spivey and Darya I Nur to 11th. Ben Maher and Cliff 67 incurred four faults in round one.

Philip slotted the Contender 11-year-old Virginia 188 into second in the 1.30m speed, almost two sec behind the winner, Portugal’s Ricardo Gil Santos on Venus C. Georgie Crumley jumped a steadier clear on Renkum Centre Star for 13th place in the 49-strong class.

In the 1.10m, Arianna Kuligowski took fourth on the 10-year-old Coco Fino with Barry Dove in sixth on the eight-year-old Debbie. Charlotte Meikle netted ninth in the 1.20m aboard Zicero D.
