Megan Taylor wins the Blue Chip Pro Sparkle JC/JA with Cross Word

Megan Taylor topped the Blue Chip Pro sparkle JC/JA at Solihull Riding Club on the JA pony Cross Word.

Eight JA’s and three JC ponies reached the jump-off in this handicap class, with Jessica Howard and the ultra-consistent Rocky Robin – a nine-year-old from the JC section that has just moved up to this level – taking an early lead.

But it was short-lived, Megan was first off in the JA section and knocked 0.22 sec off the time to take victory. The Irish-bred 16-year-old Cross Word joined Megan in May.

“I fell in love with him immediately, he’s very special,” said Megan, 15.

Jessica and Rocky Robin maintained their position for second with the rest of the qualifiers coming from the JA section. Molly Davies and Cuffesgrange For Sure claimed third with Megan also taking fourth on Quantum Light. Jack Whitaker posted a very steady clear on Zodianne Van De Doevenbree for fifth, Joe Fernyhough took sixth with a fast four faults on Wildwood Silver and also gained the eighth qualifying place on Eastisde Mirah and Imogen Marmont rode into seventh spot on Tequila Sunrise II.

Molly Bennett claimed the Horsequest UK coral on her HOYS pony newcomer finalist Mr Bojangles III.

“It’s all gone to plan,” said Molly, who bought the year-old from Megan Taylor and benefits from training with Geoff Billington.Alice Weightman took second on Cindy VI in the five-pony jump-off, finishing 0.83 sec behind.

Henry Marshall rode Who’s Smudge It into third with the only other double clear. Jack Whitaker’s fast four on Branla took fourth with Isobel Hosking in fifth aboard Amber Boy.

Locally-based Sophia Marston lifted the top two places in the Animo pony winter discovery, posting very similar times, just 0.02 sec between her two ponies. Sophia’s opening round on Gwyndyucha Ko-Ko, a seven-year-old loaned 12 months ago as owner Coral McShane is away at University, claimed the win.

Sophia, 11, who events both ponies, guided Esme Hatton’s 17-year-old mare Meiklekims Secret into second.

A total of 14 produced double clears from 27 starters, with Molly Potts Fowles taking third on Ginger T and sixth with Bell of the Bay. Dylan Stevenson slotted Shannonside Molly into fourth with Charlotte Barratt on Spring Lillie in fifth. Picking up the last two Blue Chip finalist places was Chloe Durnall in seventh aboard Reneharney Silver Boy and Hollie Jones, eight with Barana Pete II.

Rebecca Digby topped the pony British novice on Mockbeggar Pop Pop, winning by two and a half sec. Dylan and Shannonside Molly took second in the eight-pony jump-off with Elle Hart taking third aboard Blazing Star. Emily Barratt pushed Dun Prince into fourth, Molly Bettson took fifth on Lisas Friend and Isabel Bergendorff claimed sixth on Mainline Girl.

Sophia and Ko-Ko also headed the 80cm open, a warm-up before the pony discovery, wth Claudia Fletcher taking second on Bobby.

Megan Ellett headed the pony newcomers on The Legend of Zorro, winning by more than three sec in the 10-pony decider. Sofia Coope challenged in the final draw for second on Rockfield Smokey Joe and also claimed fourth with Kilnalocks Pilgrim. Lucy Gilder took third aboard Silver Spirit II, Sophie Pillips eased Valentino Supreme into fifth with Chloe Gallagher in sixth on Comverton Carina.
