Philip Spivey is in the frame in Vilamoura

Philip Spivey claimed fourth in the 3* 1.35m speed on the Contender 11-year-old Virginia 188, 2.27 sec behind the winner. Jessica Mendoza posted a steady clear on Wan Architect for 12th place.

Philip also took fifth in the 1.30m speed aboard Tracey Forrest’s home-bred Romanov/Kannan seven-year-old Kasparov. The pair finished just shy of three sec behind the pace. And Philip claimed 10th on second ride VDL Cassius, an 11-year-old Ard VDL Douglas daughter.

Steady clear rounds in the 1.45m saw Brits bunched together. Ben Maher was best in ninth spot on the 10-year-old Calvaro daughter Sarena with Harriet Nuttall in 10th and 12th on the Touchdown/Cavalier Royale 12-year-old A Touch Imperious and the Romanov/Lux 10-year-old Galway Bay Jed.

Barry Dove and the Holsteiner Cassdini finished sixth in the five-year-old more than six sec behind the winner. Harriet on Carla X took 12th with a steady clear and Harriet took 17th on the Irish-bred Tommy Quality.
