Several riders used the popular Oxford area show at Addington Manor as a warm-up for Horse of the Year Show – and those due to compete at Birmingham arena the following week were on form.
Fresh from his second place in Arena UK’s £60,000 grand prix, Robert Smith secured victory in the 1.40m on Cimano E.Robert is due to compete at HOYS in the International classes next week at Birmingham, and this was a great warm-up with the on-form Unaniem nine-year-old Cimano.
Tim Page and Justin Skinner’s Quasimodo VD Molendreef/Nabab De Reve 13-year-old Duc D’Arsouilles, a consistent winner on the county circuit with recent victories at Shrewsbury Flower Show and Pembroke, chased hard for second place.
Alfie Bradstock eased into third aboard the Canturano/Burggraaf seven-year-old Evert.Keith Doyle claimed fourth on Harlequin Dunraven with with Sian Edwards fifth aboard Adriarna and Alfie with second ride KBIS Caicos sixth.
Laura Renwick with the Mr Blue 11-year-old Rembrandt Blue outpaced all to top the 1.30m. Helen Tredwell, another due to make an appearance in the HOYS International classes, took second with Ann and Colin Garrett’s Unbelievable Darco 10-year-old Sebastian VII.
Tracy Priestand the Silverstone/Quick Star nine-year-old Caristo VDL took third ahead Laura on second ride Bandito. Bryan Smith and HOYS grade C finalist Dungimmon Sunrise took fifth with Joseph Stockdale and Gunner II in sixth.
Tim Davies headed the B and C with Deezie-Katine Weering, a Numero Uno eight-year-old mare, taking the win over Mark Edwards aboard the seven-year-old Greenvale Cara. Zoe Adams and the eight-year-old Miss Piccachu claimed third with James Fisher on Dipina in fourth, William Fletcher fifth aboard Glory Rose and Laura Renwick sixth on Shiraz II.
The top two in the Foxhunter will contend HOYS national finals next week. Tracy Priest won with the Calvaro Z seven-year-old Caruso D’Eres Z – a finalist in the newcomers and Grade C championships. Emma-Jo Slater jumped at her first show since breaking her hand at the Scope Festival and a subsequent operation to finish second on Kim Barzilay’s super-scopey seven-year-old Kimba Flamenco – a HOYS Foxhunter and talentseekers finalist.
Sian Edwards was third on Troo Contest with Ben Walker and Native Warrior in fourth. John Crippen with Limestone Lady claimed fifth and Derek Morton picked up sixth on Cristo Beech.
Julian Mincher galloped into first place in the 1.20m aboard Alan Pymont’s Mr Darcy 10-year-old Risk It.
Emma-Jo claimed second on the eight-year-old Kimba Classic with Ben Walker in third and fourth aboard Churchill III and Victory VI. Orla Morrin stood fifth on Adonis V with Helen Tredwell on Remi Argentux sixth.
Bryan Smith headed the 1.15m members cup with the 10-year-old mare Elamo Bewitched from second placed Chris Whinnett on the nine-year-old Randi daughter Roulette VI. Lorraine Allan eased Vitas,a Marcolas G/Clinton nine-year-old, into third with Christina Gachoud on Calpin Z.
Marie Edgar claimed the first class of the day, the newcomers, with the Cicero Z Van Paemel six-year-old Edelweis Chavannaise. Abi Walters on Lily X, another sx-year-old, took second with Ben Walker on the five-year-old Caretino Glory stallon Sussex Karetino in third. Tim Davies took fourth on the Coevers Diamond Boy eight-year-old Gamekeeper with Jayne Andrew in fifth aboard the Flamenco De Semilly six-year-old Ether Chavannaise.
